Maggie Greene: The Comics
Maggie was never a religious individual, and was often annoyed by her father's extreme religious attitude which was shown after her mother's death.  She is physically and emotionally weak, relying on others for protection an comfort, and struggles with her own insecurities and worrying about what people think of her.  She tries to hide her emotions so as to not have her weaknesses be exposed, and in time she overcomes her fears to become a viable survivor.

She grew up in the city, and moved back to her father's farm after her mother's death.  She went to college for one semester but flunked out before the apocalypse began, and used to date a possibly abusive man.  She meets Rick's group after they arrive on the farm after Otis accidentally shot Carl, and begins a relationship with Glenn.  After Rick's group is thrown out, Glenn remains behind with Maggie until the farm becomes overrun and they flee with Rick to the prison.  While at the prison her two young sisters are murdered, and she ends up killing the man who killed them.  Glenn and Maggie then get married at the prison, and returns to the farm during the Governor's attack, where she forms a motherly bond with Sophia.

After she finds out her father and brother didn't survive the Governor's attack, she becomes grief stricken knowing she is the last surviving Greene family member, and becomes depressed and tries to kill herself by hanging herself in the woods, but Glenn rescues her.

She makes it to Alexandria with the others, where she integrates well with the new group.  She becomes more a mother figure to Sophia and becomes pregnant, but then her life is turned upside down when Glenn is murdered by Negan.  She lashes out at Rick and takes Sophia to live at the Hilltop, where she stands up against Gregory's cowardice and claims authority of the town, becoming the new leader.

Two years later, she still leads Hilltop and is now raising her two-year-old son she named Hershel after her father.  She is almost killed by Gregory who tries to poison her, and for the betterment of herself and her town, she has Gregory hanged.  She shows great leadership skills and the people love and respect her, and she assists Rick with his fight against the Whisperers with her Hilltop army.

Maggie Greene: The Television Series
Maggie is an intelligent, caring and brave woman who is a loving daughter, sister, friend, wife and soon-to-be mother.  She had trouble adapting into the apocalyptic world as her family believed Walkers were simply sick people who could get better, but her mindset changes after she is almost killed by one.

She meets Rick's group when they arrive on the farm after Otis accidentally shot Carl, and falls in love with Glenn.  After the farm is overrun, they spend the next few months together on the road before settling into the prison, where she becomes an asset in her ability to fight and use weapons.  At the prison Glenn proposes to her and they wed, and she is forced to perform a fatal emergency C-section on Lori, giving birth to Judith.  Glenn and Maggie are then captured by Daryl's brother Merle and is interrogated, threatened and humiliated by the Governor, but does not crack under pressure until he threatens Glenn's life.  They manage to escape Woodbury and is traumatized for a short period of time, but overcomes her grief and actively takes part in the war against the Governor.

When the Governor launches a final attack on the prison, she witnesses him beheading her father before being forced to escape with Bob and Sasha, losing contact with Glenn, who was sick, as well as leaving her sister Beth behind.  Fearing Beth dead, she holds hope that Glenn made it out alive and embarks on a journey to reunite with him at any cost.  They meet Abraham, Rosita and Eugene on the road, and is reunited with Glenn.  Not long after, they're taken captive at Terminus but escape, and during this time she becomes more traumatized by the horrors she's encountered and grows a colder personality.

When she hears Beth is alive and being held at Grady Memorial, she is overcome with joy, but her joys are dashed when they arrive in time to see Daryl carrying out Beth's dead body.  Visibly broken and traumatized by everything that's happened, she claims she doesn't have the fight to stay alive, but finds solace in Glenn and Sasha, who also overcame the deaths of her family.

When they arrive at Alexandria, she starts working with Deanna and learns important leadership and political lessons, and she helps keep Alexandria safe during the horde attack, getting stuck in the guard tower but being rescued by Glenn.  She develops a motherly bond with Enid and learns she is pregnant, and travels with the group to Hilltop where she becomes the ambassador for Alexandria, drawing up a deal with Gregory to get half their supplies for killing Negan.  She goes with Rick's group to attack the outpost, but is kidnapped by some Saviors along with Carol, and she brutally kills her captors and returns home, where she suffers from labor pains.  With the only doctor around at Hilltop, she travels with Rick and the group there, but is ambushed and taken captive by Negan.

Why Maggie Could Die
Her death would be a huge impact for the audience, as she is seen as a beacon of hope for the future.  With a child on the way, she expresses faith in humanity, and if she gets beaten to death, it would serve as one of the most jarring moments in the show's history.

Why Maggie Won't Die
In the comics, Negan doesn't kill women or the sick, and Maggie is both.  Plus the show wants Negan to be the new anti-hero, the one with enough charisma to be loved even though he's ruthless, and if his first act in the show is killing a woman who is pregnant, it would be virtually impossible for his character to be seen in that light.

Maggie Greene: The Actress
Lauren Cohan was born January 7, 1982 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, before moving to the United Kingdom in her childhood.  She graduated from University of Winchester/King Alfred's College where she studied drama and English literature, and wanted to be a child psychologist.  She plays the piano and competed in competitive swimming as a child, and appeared in hit television series "Supernatural," "Chuck," and "The Vampire Diaries" as well as starring in the film "The Boy."
