King Ezekiel

"The Walking Dead" will enter its seventh season on October 23, and after leaving on a massive cliffhanger, excitement and anticipation are at all time highs. 

For the next few days I will be posting articles about the main characters you will see in the upcoming season, from faces we've seen since the first season to ones we'll be introduced to once season seven begins.

Ezekiel: The Comics

Ezekiel is an eccentric, affable and flamboyant older man who's charismatic and full of wisdom.  He is extremely confident and keeps a cool head with a friendly demeanor.  He's optimistic, but takes failures hard.  Before the apocalypse he was a zookeeper and raised his pet tiger Shiva since she was young.

Ezekiel became the leader of The Kingdom, where he is known as King Ezekiel.  He meets Jesus and forms a trade route with Hilltop, and plotted against Negan but waited for the perfect opportunity to strike, which comes when Rick arrives.  Rick brings several Alexandrians to The Kingdom, including Michonne, who begins flirting with Ezekiel, resulting in a deep relationship between the two.

Ezekiel goes with Rick and Jesus to attack the Sanctuary, and during the attack several of his men die and he takes off into the woods, where he's ambushed by a horde of Walkers.  Shiva arrives and sacrifices herself to save her master, and he makes it back home, but now he's full of guilt and confesses to Michonne that he never had anyone in his community die for him, and he laments over losing Shiva.  He becomes depressed and feels ready to give up, but Rick convinces him to keep fighting, but causes a rift between himself and Michonne.  She leaves the Kingdom to travel the ocean, and when she returns he's there to greet her, but she's cold toward him.

At the community fair Ezekiel learns that Michonne still has feelings for him, and goes to find her.  Instead he finds the Whisperer Alpha, who decapitates him and places his zombie head on a pike.  Michonne is so emotional she can't put it down, so Andrea does it for her and they bury his head next to the pike it was on.

Ezekiel: The Television Series

Ezekiel and his pet Shiva will appear in the seventh season, and in the preview he appears to be the leader of The Kingdom, and he welcomes Morgan and Carol to his community.

Ezekiel: The Actor

Khary Payton was born May 16, 1972 in Augusta, Georgia.  He's married with two children and is best known for his voice work as Cyborg in "Teen Titans," as well as doing voiceover work in "Transformers: Robots in Disguise," "The Lion Guard" and "Young Justice."
