The Walking Dead  The Well Season 7 Episode 2 Review **SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW, EPISODE AND COMICS FOLLOW, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK** At the end of season six, Carol (Melissa McBride) has abandoned Alexandria because she's been able to relax and think about the atrocities she's committed, and realized she cannot stay there anymore and kill, even to protect herself and her friends.  On the road, she runs afoul of a group of Saviors and ends up killing all but one, who goes in search for revenge.  She imposes a self-exile, but Morgan (Lenny James) doesn't let her go.  He tracks her down outside Alexandria much to her dismay, and she finds a way to sneak away from him. Then she runs into the Savior she left alive, and he shoots her twice.  She tells him she's ready to die, but before he can complete the deed Morgan steps in and breaks his code of never killing by taking out the Savior in order to protect Carol.  After this, two men in military unif...

Major Theatrical Releases November 2016

Image
Major Theatrical Releases November 2016 November looks to be a promising month for movies.  Marvel returns, as does a few war films, some horror, some Oscar-worthy dramas, Disney, and of course a certain "fantastic" movie many people are eagerly anticipating. Here are the major theatrical movies being released in November 2016. (Dates are subject to change) November 4 Doctor Strange The Sorcerer Supreme gets the Marvel Cinematic Universe treatment with the arrival of "Doctor Strange," which already looks like it will be something totally different from other Marvel movies, mostly because it centers around alternate worlds, magic, and the supernatural arts.  The previews make it look like "Inception," and that's probably an apt comparison because it will most likely be the most cerebral Marvel story of them all.  Benedict Cumberbatch exudes Dr. Stephen Strange and there's no better actor for the role, and when you have an Os...

Inferno

Image
Inferno Starring Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Omar Sy, Ben Foster Directed by Ron Howard The Story: Harvard University professor and world-renowned symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) wakes up in an Italian hospital with no recollection how he got there, but he's plagued by nightmarish visions of death, blood and horribly deformed people.  Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones) tells him that he was brought to the hospital with a wound to the head, and then they're both attacked by a female assassin. They make their way to Sienna's apartment, where Robert remembers being given a vial that contains a Faraday pointer, which shows an image of hell as depicted in Dante Alighierti's "Inferno."  They also learn that madman billionaire geneticist Bertrand Zobrist (Ben Foster) - who killed himself three days prior - plans on unleashing a plague known as Inferno to the world in order to help decrease the human population before it reaches critical mass.  Lan...

House on Haunted Hill

Image
House on Haunted Hill Starring Geoffrey Rush, Fake Janssen, Ali Larter, Taye Diggs Directed by William Malone The Story: Back in the early 1900s, there was a hospital for the criminally insane which was overtaken by the patients, which resulted in the deaths of several people.  The building was rumored to be haunted ever since, and adventure park owner Steven Price (Geoffrey Rush) rents the building for his trophy wife Evelyn's (Famke Janssen) birthday party.  They each create their own list of people to invite, but instead a supernatural force chooses five people seemingly at random, people neither Steven nor Evelyn ever met: Eddie Baker (Taye Diggs), Dr. Donald Blackburn (Peter Gallagher), Watson Pritchett (Chris Kattan), Sara Wolfe (Ali Larter) and Melissa Margaret Marr (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras). When their guests arrive, Steven and Evelyn reveal that each of them will win one million dollars if they survive the night, and whoever dies or leaves will forfeit ...

Worst2First: My Top Ten Films to Watch on Halloween

Image
Worst2First:  My Top Ten Films to Watch on Halloween Halloween is my second most favorite holiday of the year (the first being Christmas, talk about two extremes), and with horror being my favorite genre of movies, there's countless movies you could pick to watch on Halloween night.  With Halloween fast approaching, here are my top ten films to watch on Halloween, Worst2First. **There will be no spoilers.** #10 Casper Starting off early in the day should be the family-friendly "Casper," because probably the children are still in the house.  "Casper" is a great film that the whole family can enjoy, and features some top-notch talent in Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Eric Idle and Amy Brenneman, and focuses on a father and daughter who experience three mischievous ghosts and one friendly one named Casper.  For 1995, the animation was far beyond its time, and even though it might not hold up to today's blockbuster standards, it's sti...

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1 Review

The Walking Dead The Day Will Come When You Won't Be Season 7 Episode 1 Review **SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW, EPISODE AND COMICS FOLLOW, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK** At the end of season six, we've found eleven of our lovable heroes at the mercy of a new threat by the name of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and his weapon of choice: Lucille, a baseball bat lovingly draped with barbed wire.  Previously, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his crew assassinated several of Negan's men in their sleep because they were threatening the Hilltop colony, and they offered to take care of Negan's men in return for half their supplies. Rick and his group have faced adversaries before (The Governor, the Termites, hordes of Walkers), and they felt like nothing could stop them, and Negan would be an easy enemy to off.  They were wrong on every level, as Negan's army far surpasses Rick's in both size and tactical maneuverability, which was shown at the end of season six.  Daryl, Rosita, ...

The Shallows

Image
The Shallows Starring Blake Lively, Oscar Jaenada, Angela Corzo, Brett Cullen Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra The Story: Nancy (Blake Lively) is a medical school dropout who heads to Mexico to find a secret beach that her recently deceased mother went to in order to surf.  She finds the small piece of paradise and she's having the time of her life - remembering her mother, surfing the waves, and enjoying her time.  That is, until a shark bites her leg.  She manages to swim to a small bunch of rocks as the shark menacingly circles her, and she has very little time to come up with a way to escape before the shark kills her, or she dies from the elements. The Synopsis: When I thought about "The Shallows," I just pictured a lazy tale that centers around one extremely attractive woman with mediocre acting talent parading around in a bathing suit and pretending to be frightened by a baby shark.  Thankfully, sometimes my imagination far under-exceeds expectatio...
