The Friday Five: Lucas Hedges

The Friday Five:
Lucas Hedges
Many general moviegoers probably have never heard of Lucas Hedges, but he's made a major name for himself in the more independent film circuit, earning himself an Academy Award nomination and several Golden Globe nominations in his short career.

Here are my five personal favorite films of Lucas Hedges...

*THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS**

#5
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Hedges doesn't have a major role here, but the small time he's on screen are absolutely tremendous (as is the entire film).  Here he plays the son of Frances McDormand's Mildred, who's dealing with the tragic death of his sister as well as his mother seeking unorthodox methods to find her killer.

#4
 Lady Bird

In this critically acclaimed comedy-drama, Lucas Hedges plays the boyfriend of Saoirse Ronan's titular character, who harbors a deep secret of his own.  Although his time was brief, he once again left a lasting impression.

#3
 Ben is Back

It's all about family in "Ben is Back," as the film was directed by Lucas's father Peter.  The film follows Lucas's character Ben as he returns home after a stint in rehab, and must face his past demons in order to live a better life, and Hedges once again shines.

#2
 Manchester by the Sea

The film that started it all, the melancholy "Manchester by the Sea" featured Hedges in a strong supporting role (so strong that he earned an Academy Award nomination) as Patrick Chandler, the son of Joe Chandler who died, and whom Joe's brother Lee is tasked with taking care of.  Hedges electrifies the screen and gives a commanding performance, showcasing a talent that's just starting to take off.

#1
 Boy Erased

Lucas Hedges plays the role of Jared Eamons in this film based off the true-life memoir of the man who endured very controversial gay conversion therapy at the behest of his incredibly religious father and dutiful mother, and it's an absolute tour-de-force performance.  Hedges encapsulates everything Eamons went through, and his performance here is not one you'll soon forget.
