Worst2First: My Top Ten Best Actress Oscar Nominees That Didn't Win

Worst2First:
My Top Ten Best Actress
Oscar Nominees That Didn't Win

They say it's an honor to just be nominated, but in the heart of everyone who's nominated for an Academy Award, they desperately desire to win that golden statue.  While there can only be one winner per year, there's several nominees who easily could've taken the gold instead.

Here are my personal top ten Best Actress Oscar nominees that didn't win, worst2first...

**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS**

#10

Ellen Page
Juno
Ellen Page became a household name thanks to her memorable performance of Juno MacGuff in "Juno," where she played a young teenage girl who becomes pregnant and has to decide what to do next.  It was comedic and thoughtful, with a well-written script and solid performance, but she ultimately lost to Marion Cotillard in "La Vie En Rose."

#9
 Sigourney Weaver
Aliens
It's not too often you find an actress getting a Best Actress nomination for a horror film, or a sequel, or an action film - yet Sigourney Weaver managed to exceed all expectations and found herself in the running for the golden statue for her timeless heroine Ripley in James Cameron's "Aliens," but while she could kick alien butt, she couldn't beat out Marlee Matlin in "Children of a Lesser God."

#8
 Michelle Williams
My Week With Marilyn
Shedding her former role as a supporting player in the long-running "Dawson's Creek," Michelle Williams has really made a name for herself as a respected, talented actress, earning herself several Academy Award nominations.  Her turn as the flawed and beautiful Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn" was stellar and poignant, but she lost the statue to Meryl Streep in "The Iron Lady."

#7
 Glenn Close
Fatal Attraction
Giving men nightmares for decades, Glenn Close dominated the screen as the villainous Alex Forrest in the thriller "Fatal Attraction," but much like the love she pined for in the film, she couldn't get her hands on Oscar, loosing to Cher in "Moonstruck."

#6
 Sandra Bullock
Gravity
It's almost impossible to hold a film on the performance of a single person, but that's what Alfonso Cuaron managed to accomplish in his stellar work "Gravity," and Sandra Bullock was the anchor that held it all together.  Going into the ceremony, she was the front-runner to win, but lost out to Cate Blanchett's performance in "Blue Jasmine."

#5
 Meryl Streep
Doubt
Easily the best actress of our time (and possibly all time), Meryl Streep has received the most nominations of any actor, and has won her fair share of Oscar.  Yet it's her performance as strict, no-nonsense nun in "Doubt" that should've given her another award, but she lost to Kate Winslet in "The Reader."

#4
 Julia Roberts
Pretty Woman
Known as the hooker with a heart of gold, Julia Roberts gave a career-defining performance in "Pretty Woman," which remains her most memorable roles.  Although she was nominated for an Oscar, she lost out to Kathy Bates in "Misery."

#3
 Ellen Burstyn
Requiem for a Dream
Easily the most unforgettable performance of her long career, Ellen Burstyn absolutely nailed her performance in the dizzying, unrelenting "Requiem for a Dream," starring as a mother who gets addicted to pills and goes on a crazed journey of the mind.  Although she lost to Julia Roberts in "Erin Brockovich," her performance here is the stuff of legend.

#2
 Audrey Hepburn
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Although it came out in the early 1960s, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" has withstood the test of time to become of of Hollywood's most memorable films, and Audrey Hepburn's performance (as well as fashion) has been studied and admired for decades.  Even though she lost to Sophia Loren in "Two Women," Hepburn's performance will remain as timeless as the actress was herself.

#1
 Julie Andrews
The Sound of Music
The hills were not alive with the sound of Oscar, as Julie Andrews failed to gain Oscar gold for her memorable, timeless, pitch-perfect performance of Maria von Trapp in "The Sound of Music," loosing to Julie Christie in "Darling."
