Major Theatrical Releases November 2018

Major Theatrical Releases November 2018
Featuring a plethora of different types of films, November has some very exciting movies to see at your local theater.

Here are the major motion pictures being released in November, 2018.

**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS,

Also, dates are subject to change**

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
November 2
Everyone knows the ballet "The Nutcracker," and Disney is leaving their mark on the classic ballet with "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms," based off the novel by T.A. Hoffmann.  Young Clara learns that her mother created a parallel world after being given a key by her godfather, played by Morgan Freeman.  She crosses to the other world, and discovers there's three different realms that live in peace, but there's a fourth realm ruled by the evil Mother Ginger who plans on taking the whole world over.  The film boasts a strong cast including Freeman, Keira Knightley, and Helen Mirren, and the visuals look absolutely stunning and beautiful - everything you expect from a Disney film.

Bohemian Rhapsody
November 2
This biopic focuses on the rise of rock legends Queen, and their founding member and lead singer Freddie Mercury.  The band revolutionized the music industry with their unique style and memorable songs, ones that are still sung today.  Rami Malik transforms into Mercury, and it looks like he'll dominate the screen in this powerful true-life story of the band's rise to fame.

Nobody's Fool
November 2
Tiffany Haddish stars in her 5,000th film this year in Tyler Perry's "Nobody's Fool," where she plays a recently paroled convict who helps her well-to-do sister find the online guy who's catfishing her.  Haddish is highly over-saturated and her unique brand of humor has become somewhat stale, at least to me, and this film doesn't look at all appealing to me.

Dr. Seuss' The Grinch
November 9
Jim Carrey brought the mean ole Mr. Grinch to life in "The Grinch," but after the miserable failure that was "Cat in the Hat," the relatives of Dr. Seuss made it so no more live-action films based on the classic author's books would ever be made.  Now, we get a wholly animated tale of the classic green villain without a heart in "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch."  Benedict Cumberbatch voices the nasty meany who sets out to ruin Christmas, but instead finds something much more important.  Illumination Studios once again gives it their all, and this looks to be a fun film the whole family can enjoy for the holidays.

Overlord
 November 9
On the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers find themselves stranded behind enemy lines, and find that the Nazis are working on creating the perfect weapon - an army of monsters they can use to take over the world.  Before the failure that was "The Cloverfield Paradox," rumors abounded that "Overlord" would be the prequel to the "Cloverfield" universe, but it seems those rumors have been quenched, at least according to producer J.J. Abrams.  We'll see if this is indeed a prequel, or just a thrilling horror adventure set in World War II - either way, it looks exciting.

The Girl in the Spider's Web
November 9
Now here's the story behind this:  The character of Lisbeth Salander was created by Swedish author Steig Larsson, who wrote three books known as the Millennium collection before his death in 2004.  Author David Lagercrantz picked up his work and wrote two more books with Salander as the main character.  There was a trilogy of films from Sweden called "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire," and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest" featuring Noomi Rapace, and there was an American version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara, who received an Academy Award nomination for her performance.  Now there's a soft reboot featuring "The Crown" star Claire Foy as Salander, and now she's out for revenge for women who have been abused, but there seems to be one of her past mistakes that's haunting her.  Foy looks right for the part, and should prove to be an exciting chapter in the franchise.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
November 16
Much like its predecessor, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," "The Crimes of Grindelwald" looks to be a welcome addition to the Wizarding World franchise, the prequels to the "Harry Potter" saga.  Eddie Redmayne returns as Newt Scamander as he takes on the dark wizard Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, with the aid of Albus Dumbledore, played by Jude Law.  Look for exciting wizarding duels, fantastic performances, and top-notch effects.

Instant Family
November 16
Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne star in "Instant Family," a movie that focuses on a childless couple who decide to foster three siblings, and based off a real life event.  The film looks to be a great family-friendly comedy with laugh-out-loud moments and strong performances.

Widows
November 16
From the acclaimed director of "12 Years a Slave" comes this thrilling tale of revenge and completion.  When their husbands are killed in a failed heist attempt, their widows pick up the mantle to complete the job, and prove that women are just a capable as men.  With a stellar cast including Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Colin Farrell, Daniel Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver, Jon Bernthal, Robert Duvall, Liam Neeson, and the illustrious Viola Davis at the helm, look for some strong performances, exciting action, and a daring storyline.

At Eternity's Gate
November 16
Willem Dafoe stars as Vincent Van Gogh in "At Eternity's Gate," a film that focuses on the troubled painter's life.  Dafoe looks born for the role, and will undoubtedly give a terrific performance.  The movie also co-stars Oscar Isaac, Rupert Friend, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Creed II
 November 21
After the huge success of the "Rocky" spinoff "Creed," it was only a matter of time before a sequel was greenlit.  The result is "Creed II," which reunites Michael B. Jordan with Sylvester Stallone, and this time around Jordan's Adonis Creed decides to take on the son of Ivan Drago - the man who killed his father - in his own fight.  Michael B. Jordan has proven he has the acting chops to pull off a heavily dramatic film, and this looks to be another exciting addition to the growing "Creed" franchise.

Robin Hood
November 21
The story of Robin Hood has been told and re-told throughout the centuries, and once again we're given a Robin Hood origin story.  Taron Egerton - best known for his role in the "Kingsman" franchise - stars as the titular hero who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, as he sets out to stop the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham by robbing him blind.  Jamie Foxx stars as Robin Hood's mentor, and Ben Mendelsohn stars as the evil Sheriff, and the film looks to be a more stylish, action-packed take on the tale than other outings, but I also wonder why it's necessary at all.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2
November 21
John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return in "Ralph Breaks the Internet," the followup to the wildly successful "Wreck it Ralph."  This time around, Ralph and Vanellope enter the World Wide Web, where they find a whole new cast of characters (and every Disney princess ever) in their search of a new steering wheel.  Looks to be another standout hit for Disney, a laugh-out-loud comedy for the whole family to enjoy.

Green Book
 November 21
Oscar winner Mahershala Ali stars as Jamaican-American classical pianist Don Shirley, who decided to tour in the Deep South during the 1960s despite segregation and racism running rampant.  Oscar-nominee Viggo Mortensen stars as Tony Lip, a New York bouncer who serves as Shirley's bodyguard, and the film looks to be an earnest, powerful look at overcoming adversity in the midst of struggle, with two acclaimed actors anchoring it.

The Front-Runner
November 21
Everyone loves a good political movie, and "The Front-Runner" is most certainly one of those.  Hugh Jackman stars as Gary Hart, who ran for President in 1988, and looked to be the front-runner before scandal erupted and ended his campaign in a way that was monumental and memorable for all the wrong reasons.  Jackman again looks to give a strong performance, with acclaimed actors Vera Farmiga, J.K. Simmons and Alfred Molina in supporting roles.

So there are the major release films due out in November,
and here's the order in which I want to see them:

#15: Nobody's Fool
#14: Instant Family
#13: Green Book
#12:  Dr. Seuss' The Grinch
#11: At Eternity's Gate
#10: Robin Hood
