Major Theatrical Releases February 2018
Major Theatrical Releases February 2018
February's got some exciting films to offer - a true-life horror movie, a true-life hero movie, one of the most anticipated Marvel films to date, and the thankful end to one of the worst movie trilogies in the history of mankind.
Here are the major theatrical releases for February 2018.
**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS,
since the films aren't released yet.
Also, dates are subject to change**
Winchester
February 2
Oscar winner Helen Mirren stars as Sarah Winchester, the heir to the massive Winchester Rifle Corporation, a woman who was haunted by the spirits of those killed by the rifle. They continually threatened her life, but as long as she kept building her mansion, they wouldn't kill her. The result is the Winchester Mystery House, a massive, sprawling mansion in San Francisco that's an oddity of itself, and with a heavyweight like Helen Mirren in the lead, this looks to be a frightening good time.
Fifty Shades Freed
February 9
Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we're free at last! The final installment of this...if you want to call it a movie series...finally comes out and ends its years-long reign of torture and vanity.
Peter Rabbit
February 9
To say this abomination is based off the beloved Beatrix Potter novel would be doing a disservice to her, the literary world, and basically anyone else you can think of. Seemingly gone is the youthful innocence and now we're given a more "modern re-telling" of the lovable rabbit, but it looks like an absolute trainwreck.
The 15:17 to Paris
February 9
Clint Eastwood is one of the best directors and actors of our time, and once again he goes behind the camera to direct the true story of three American soldiers who thwart a terrorist attack aboard a train bound for Paris. This is a film that will show the greatness in humanity, and it's all the more real because Eastwood did something rather unprecedented - instead of casting seasoned actors to play their roles, he cast the real-life heroes (Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos) in their roles. It'll be interesting to see how they re-play the most fateful day of their lives.
Black Panther
February 16
Ever since arriving on the scene in "Captain America: Civil War," fans have been eagerly anticipating seeing T'Challa - the Black Panther - in his own movie. Now it's finally here, and it looks every bit as exciting as any Marvel movie before it. Chadwick Boseman returns as the future King of Wakanda, and also features a standout cast including Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, Angela Basset and Forest Whitaker.
Early Man
February 16
Using stop-motion animation in the same style as the Oscar-winning film "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," "Early Man" tells the story of Dug (voiced by Eddie Redmayne), who lives in the Stone Age. When the Bronze Age begins, he finds his tranquil way of life under attack by Lord Nooth (voiced by Tom Hiddleston), and sets out to save his village. While I can appreciate the work going into the animation, this isn't one I'm particularly looking forward to.
Annihilation
February 23
Based on a book by Jeff VanderMeer and directed by the same man who brought us the excellent "Ex Machina," "Annihilation" stars Natalie Portman as a wife who travels into a mysterious disaster zone to find out what happened to her husband. This looks to be a visual masterpiece with tense action and mystery, with a killer soundtrack.
Every Day
February 23
I'll give it this: it's got an interesting premise. A young girl falls in love with a spirit, who wakes up every morning in a different body. That's basically all the credit I can give, because the rest looks like a wannabe-Nicolas Sparks film with the traditional teenage love drivel - then again, I'm clearly not the intended audience.
Game Night
February 23
Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams and Kyle Chandler star in this laugh-out-loud comedy about a group of middle-aged couples who play board games, and find themselves involved in a real game for their lives. With the acting talent and the hilarious trailer, this looks to be a comedic hit and one I'm excited to see.
War With Grandpa
February 23
There's no actual trailer I could find, and the premise looks absolutely idiotic: "Forced to give up his room to his grandfather, a scheming boy devises a series of outrageous pranks in an attempt to make him
move out." How Robert De Niro volunteered to star in this is beyond me. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even released.
So there are the major theatrical releases for February 2018.
Here's the order as to how excited I am to see them:
1. Black Panther
2. Annihilation
3. Winchester
4. The 15:17 to Paris
5. Game Night
6. Every Day
7. Early Man
8. Peter Rabbit
9. War With Grandpa
10. Fifty Shades Freed
