May is the start of the summer blockbuster season, and this month has its shares of highly anticipated movies, from another take on the Arthurian legend to a movie based off a long-dead television franchise and a return visit of our favorite Guardians, May has something for everyone.
Here are the major theatrical releases for May 2017.

May 5
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The surprise hit of 2014 returns in its highly anticipated sequel, as we reunite with our favorite Guardians of the Galaxy as they once again save the galaxy from evil. This film centers on Peter's patronage, as he's finally reunited with his father - played by Kurt Russell - and how this will affect his team. No doubt it will be a huge hit, and kids all over will be crying for a Baby Groot of their very own - not that I would be crying for one...no...not at all...
May 12
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
The story of King Arthur has been passed down for millennia, and now it's Guy Ritchie's turn to tell the story of the legend. No doubt he will add his own flair to the film and add his own unique stamp on the story, and it looks to be an action-packed adventure featuring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana, Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Djimon Hounsou.
Snatched
Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn decide to take a mother-daughter vacation to the tropics, where of course they get kidnapped, because that's what happens when Americans set foot in tropical countries. This is Goldie Hawn's first movie since "The Banger Sisters" in 2002, and it looks like she should've stayed in retirement. Plus Amy Schumer. Who would ever want to kidnap her, and, more importantly, who would pay to get her back? Her kidnappers would be offering money to give her back. The only small light here is Wanda Sykes, who is always hilarious, but not worth seeing a whole movie for.
May 19
Everything, Everything
Every summer there's that one romance/young adult-based novel that hits the big screen in hopes of attracting a different type of moviegoer. Two years ago it was "The Fault in Our Stars," and last year it was "Me Before You." This year it's "Everything, Everything," the "Bubble Boy" for the new generation. A girl (played by Amandla Stenberg, best known for her small - yet highly memorable - role as Rue in "The Hunger Games") is allergic to everything and can't leave her house, but she falls in love with the new neighbor boy ("Jurassic World" star Nick Robinson) and finds the courage to leave her home. Since it's done by the same people behind "Me Before You" and "If I Stay," I'll just say I bet she dies in the end. Not a spoiler, since I never read the book, but that's just my educated guess.
Alien Covenant
Ridley Scott returns to the franchise that made him a household name with the follow-up to "Prometheus," where we once again find a group of space travelers who find an uncharted world devoid of life - because it was all destroyed by killer aliens. It looks to be more action-packed and gory than "Prometheus," which is a very good thing, and it also stars Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir and Katherine Waterston as this generation's Ripley. Looks to be an exciting, horrific adventure.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul
Based off the beloved book franchise, "The Long Haul" is the fourth in the film franchise - and basically the fourth unnecessary film in the franchise - that features an entirely new cast, which looks to be the worst casting choices in modern cinematic history. No doubt this will tank badly, and will be one of this summer's biggest flops.
May 25
Baywatch
Based off the incredibly corny television series starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, "Baywatch" gets the big screen treatment starring Dwayne Johnson - a.k.a. Hollywood's Hottest Commodity - and Zac Efron - who continues to shed his family-friendly persona - as they take down evil and do more than just save drowning victims, which is usually what lifeguards do anyway. We'll see how this goes, but it's looking a bit more promising each time I see the trailers, especially since they're going for the hard-R rating. If the Hoff makes an appearance, that would be simply amazing.
May 26
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Johnny Depp returns to his Oscar-nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, this time on the run from Captain Salazar, whom he cursed decades ago and is out seeking revenge. There's promise to this film because not only is Depp returning, but so is Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush, plus the additions of Brenton Thwaites and Javier Bardem looks to be welcomed additions to the cast. Hopefully it's not as bad as the last two films in the franchise, but time will tell.
