My Most Anticipated Films of Spring 2025
Leading up to what cinemas consider summer (which runs from May to
August as opposed to June to August), theaters are going to be popping
during the two spring months of March and April! From sequels to war films and some exciting original content, there's something for everyone
to see on the big screen in March and April.
So here are the ten films I'm most excited to see in March and April of 2025...
**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS**
**DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE**
#10
Ash
March 21
Sci-fi isn't my particularly favorite genre, but I can still appreciate what it has to offer, especially in the horror community. "Alien" is still the standard of sci-fi horror films, and "Ash" looks like an "Alien" type film - a woman alone in the vastness of space after her entire crew is killed, trying to understand what happened when she's rescued by someone that she may or may not be able to trust. Eiza Gonzalez and Aaron Paul star in this mind-tripping film that looks gorgeous and seems to deliver a horrifying mystery as well.
#9
Until Dawn
April 25
The video game "Until Dawn" was the reason I wanted a PlayStation 4, because I loved the horror story it delivered. Being able to control the fate of the characters, seeing them die or survive depending on your choices, was something that made the game insanely replayable. Now there's a movie that looks to re-capture that same feeling, focusing on a group of friends in search of a missing friend but finding themselves being murdered over and over again, learning they must survive until dawn. I'm very cautious about this film, since it's based on a video game, and looks to be a bit dull honestly if there's little to no stakes in their deaths if they keep coming back alive again and again, something the game doesn't do.
#8
The Alto Knights
March 21
Robert DeNiro's name is synonymous with mafia movies, so casting him in "The Alto Knights" was a no-brainer...but director Barry Levinson raised the stakes by casting DeNiro not just once, but twice. DeNiro plays both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello - two of the most infamous mob bosses in American history - as the two former friends become mortal enemies. This looks to be an early Oscar-bait film that'll either be a rousing success like other DeNiro films, or fall by the wayside.
#7
The Accountant 2
April 25
2016's "The Accountant" was a surprise hit, centering on Ben Affleck's Christian Wolff, an autistic public accountant who does less-than-legal methods for his customers. Now, almost ten years later, the long-awaited sequel hits theaters that reunites Affleck with director Gavin O'Connor and co-star Jon Bernthal as he's thrust into a murder mystery involving the Treasury Agent. This again looks to be a big hit with exciting action, humor, and mystery surrounding it.
#6
Opus
March 14
A24 has fully established itself as the production company that takes big risks with big reward, and "Opus" looks like another big risk it's taking. Centering on celebrity worship almost as a cult, the movie centers around reporter Ariel Ecton as she is invited to the commune belonging to famed musician Alfred Moretti as he plans his big magnum opus, and finds more than she bargained for. Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich co-star in this horror comedy that looks to be equally terrifying and darkly humorous in equal measure.
#5
Warfare
April 11
Speaking of A24, last year they had a stellar year with Alex Garland's "Civil War," and Garland again returns behind the director's chair in another war film "Warfare," along with former U.S. Navy Seal Ray Mendoza. The film follows, in real-time, a platoon of Navy SEALs on a mission through insurgent territory in 2006, and is Mendoza's story. It looks intense and action packed, and with a strong ensemble cast including Will Poulter, Kit Connor, Michael Gandolfini, Noah Centineo, Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton, looks to provide strong performances as well.
#4
The Woman in the Yard
March 28
I love me a good horror mystery, and "The Woman in the Yard" looks to be just that (even though its produced by Blumhouse, which hasn't had the best track record, especially in 2024). The movie centers on a family led by the outstanding Danielle Deadwyler who finds a mysterious woman clad in black sitting in their front yard. No one knows who she is, how she got there, what she wants, or if she'll leave, but she appears to be a harbinger of doom. I'm very excited to see how this unfolds and what it all entails.
#3
Sinners
April 18
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have had an impeccable working history together, spanning from Coogler's directorial debut "Fruitvale Station" starring Jordan in 2013 that landed both men lucrative deals with Marvel ("Black Panther") and the "Creed" franchise, and now they're together again in this horror mystery thriller. Jordan stars as twins Smoke and Stack who return to their hometown to start over, but find themselves under attack by forces that come out at night. Co-starring Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O'Connell and Wunmi Mosaku, "Sinners" looks to be an intense horror period piece with great performances and great scares.
#2
Death of a Unicorn
March 28
A24 returns again with another unique film that most production companies would shy away from. When a father and daughter accidentally kill a unicorn, they learn that said unicorn has the ability to cure diseases and make things better for humanity, but then discover that it wasn't alone, as its mate is seeking retribution. This looks to be a hilarious horror movie with a great cast including Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Pouler, Tea Leoni and Richard Grant.
#1
Mickey 17
March 7
Fresh off his Oscar win for Director and Picture for "Parasite," Bong Joon-ho returns with "Mickey 17," a futuristic movie that centers on Robert Pattionson's Mickey, who agrees to be cloned and sent into dangerous situations where he dies and is cloned again. Yet when his seventeenth clone doesn't die and the eighteenth is made, they must learn to live together and deal with the idea that they're both expendable for a greedy government. Co-starring Toni Collette, Steven Yeun and Mark Ruffalo, this looks to be a great sci-fi comedy with another great performance by Pattinson.
