Golden Globe 2017 Predictions

Golden Globe 2017 Predictions
The only good thing about winter is the arrival of Awards season, and this Sunday is Oscar's red-headed stepchild, the Golden Globes.

FILM
Best Original Score:
Moonlight
La La Land
Arrival
Lion
Hidden Figures

For a film that's centered on music, anything other than La La Land winning would be a surprise.

WINNER: LA LA LAND

Best Original Song:
Can't Stop the Feeling - Trolls
City of Stars - La La Land
Faith - Sing
Gold - Gold
How Far I'll Go - Moana

Once again, if anything other than La La Land wins, it'd be a surprise.

WINNER: CITY OF STARS

Best Foreign Film:
Divines - France
Elle - France
Neruda - Chile
The Salesman - Iran
Toni Erdmann - Germany

Never heard of any of them, total guess here.

WINNER: ELLE

Best Animated Feature Film:
Moana
My Life as a Zucchini
Sing
Zootopia
Kubo and the Two Strings

Very surprised to not see Trolls or Finding Dory, and as much as I desire Kubo to win, it'll probably go to one of the Disney movies.

WINNER: ZOOTOPIA

Best Screenplay:
Damien Chazelle - La La Land
Tom Ford - Nocturnal Animals
Barry Jenkins - Moonlight
Kenneth Lonergan - Manchester by the Sea
Taylor Sheridan - Hell or High Water

The only movies I haven't seen were Moonlight and Hell or High Water, from the ones I've seen its very tough as they're all amazing, but I'd go with the sob story over anything else.

WINNER: KENNETH LONERGAN - MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

Best Director:
Damien Chazelle - La La Land
Tom Ford - Nocturnal Animals
Barry Jenkins - Moonlight
Kenneth Lonergan - Manchester by the Sea
Taylor Sheridan - Hell or High Water

I feel this will come down to Chazelle and Lonergan, and once again the heavy dramatic piece will overtake the comedy.

WINNER: KENNETH LONERGAN - MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role:
Mahershala Ali - Moonlight
Jeff Bridges - Hell or High Water
Simon Helberg - Florence Foster Jenkins
Dev Patel - Lion
Aaron Taylor-Johnson - Nocturnal Animals

I'm relatively surprised that Lucas Hedges didn't get a nomination here, as he surely would've been the frontrunner.  With the category wide open, I'd go with Patel's performance in Lion to take the gold.

WINNER: DEV PATEL - LION

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role:
Naomie Harris - Moonlight
Nicole Kidman - Lion
Octavia Spencer - Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams - Manchester by the Sea
Viola Davis - Fences

Unless Viola Davis makes an upset, this is Michelle Williams's award to loose.

WINNER: MICHELLE WILLIAMS - MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical:
Colin Farrell - The Lobster
Ryan Gosling - La La Land
Hugh Grant - Florence Foster Jenkins
Jonah Hill - War Dogs
Ryan Reynolds - Deadpool

The winner will be named Ryan.  As much as I would love for it to be Reynolds, it will surely be Gosling who takes home the award - and much deserved.

WINNER: RYAN GOSLING - LA LA LAND

Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical:
Annette Bening - 20th Century Women
Lily Collins - Rules Don't Apply
Hailee Steinfeld - The Edge of Seventeen
Emma Stone - La La Land
Meryl Streep - Florence Foster Jenkins

There is really no need to debate who will win this one.

WINNER: EMMA STONE - LA LA LAND

Best Actor in a Drama:
CaseyAffleck - Manchester by the Sea
Joel Edgerton - Loving
Andrew Garfield - Hacksaw Ridge
Viggo Mortensen - Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington - Fences

While everyone gave great performances, one in particular stands out and will be tough competition against Ryan Gosling for the eventual Oscar win.

WINNER: CASEY AFFLECK - MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

Best Actress in a Drama:
Amy Adams - Arrival
Jessica Chastain - Miss Sloane
Isabelle Huppert - Elle
Ruth Negga - Loving
Natalie Portman - Jackie

This category is entirely up in the air, and they're all probably thankful Emma Stone's performance was listed in the Comedy category.

WINNER: RUTH NEGGA - LOVING

Best Motion Picture: Comedy or Musical:
20th Century Women
Deadpool
Florence Foster Jenkins
La La Land
Sing Street

While I SO wish a comic book movie would win, the winner here is inevitable.

WINNER: LA LA LAND

Best Motion Picture: Drama:
Hacksaw Ridge
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Hell or High Water

Again, all the films were moving and powerful, but one in particular stood out and will once again serve as a pas de deux against La La Land come Oscar time.

WINNER: MANCHESTER BY THE SEA
