Way of the Wicked

Way of the Wicked
Starring Vinnie Jones, Emily Tennant, Jake Croker, Christian Slater
Directed by Kevin Carraway

Synopsis:
When they were younger, Heather (Emily Tennant) and Robbie (Jake Croker) were involved in a situation that resulted in the unnatural death of a fellow student.  Robbie and his family left town, but five years later they've returned, and Robbie still has feelings for Heather.  Upon his return, a series of strange deaths begin to occur that seem to center on the teen, and local priest Henry (Christian Slater) seems to believe Robbie is the antichrist, and go to Heather's father (Vinnie Jones), a detective, for help.  Is Robbie really the antichrist, and would evil prevail over good?

Review:
When you have Christian Slater as the lead on the DVD cover, and he's literally in the film for a whole five minutes, you got problems.  When your headline actor hasn't done anything worthwhile in years, you come into the film expecting something terrible - and you're not disappointed...or you are...whichever.

The main focus of the film is the Romeo and Juliet style love story between the roguish bad boy and the virginal princess, but set for modern times and, as I hate saying it, makes "Twilight" look like an epic love story.  The film could've fared well as a short film, since the dialogue here seems to repeat itself over and over again, having the same set-ups and situations scene after scene, it could've been cut down tremendously.

Then there was the story itself.  An antichrist-figure in a small Washington town, who kills literally one person and this somehow is supposed to bring on the end of the world?  Makes sense.  It makes even less sense as the story progresses, and you get to that awful ending which would make even M. Night cringe.  It would've been slightly better if there was a real ending, but it seems that - as with so many other films - the director focuses everything on the first half of their film and just lets the final half die.

Summary:
A film that could've been better if it had better actors, better story and an actual ending that makes sense.

My Rating: D+
