Dog Soldiers
Starring Sean Pertwee, Kevin McKidd, Emma Cleasby, Liam Cunningham
Directed by Neil Marshall

A team of British soldiers head to Scotland for a military exercise against a special forces army, but finds their enemies already dead and devoured by some evil force.  Only one man remains, and they take him captive, but they too come under attack from the flesh-eating creatures.  A local woman picks them up and takes them to an isolated home, where they hunker down against an army of werewolves whose only desires are to hunt and eat.

I've seen this film on several lists online of the best horror films ever made.  I could never understand this, because seeing the previews it looked tame, boring, and almost laughable.  Plus werewolf movies are hardly done right, with very rare exceptions ("An American Werewolf in London," the first "Howling").

So maybe it was my skepticism going into the film, but I actually quite enjoyed it.  I loved how the director didn't resort to cheesy CGI graphics (like a certain movie involving werewolves, but also lame vampires and the worst actress in the world), but instead went old-school on the werewolves, using costumes, stilts and good old fashioned people inside the suits.

There was a couple humorous moments in the film, and unlike other horror flicks, they were done on purpose.  It was a movie that didn't take itself very seriously, but serious enough to be drawn into the danger of it.  It reminded me a lot of the "Evil Dead" movie, where most of the film is shot inside one building, where those inside try their best to fight against an outside evil force.

So this is one of the rare horror films that deserves its title as one of the best horror films ever made.
