Major Theatrical Releases July 2019
With summer heating up, the films being released are also heating up as well, providing another thrilling, intriguing month at the movies. Here are the major theatrical releases for July 2019...
**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS**
**DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE**
Spider-Man: Far From Home
July 2
Tom
Holland returns as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man as he and his
classmates take a field trip to Europe, where he's enlisted by Nick Fury
to stop the Elementals from taking over the world, with the help of the
mysterious Mysterio. Jake Gyllenhaal makes his Marvel debut as the
classic Mysterio, and this looks to be just as good as "Homecoming,"
filled with action, humor, and fantastic performances.
Midsommar
July 3
There's so many things "Midsommar" has going for it: it's produced by the golden standard A24, it's directed by "Hereditary" director Ari Aster, it's got its own unique feel, and it looks somewhat like another horror classic, "The Wicker Man." When a group of friends travel to Sweden to attend a mid-summer festival, they find that they've landed in the very heart of hell on earth, captured by a fanatical religious cult. This looks to be an unnerving, unstoppable psychological horror film and I can't wait to see it.
Crawl
July 12
The creature feature subgenre hasn't really done well in American cinemas for a long while, and although I'm cautiously optimistic that "Crawl" will be decent, I fear it'll just be another forgettable survival horror film. In the middle of a massive hurricane, a young woman goes to rescue her father, but finds herself at odds against alligators who've come in with the storm. It looks like it'd be a fun cat-and-mouse game, and we'll see if they can pull it off.
Stuber
July 12
Dave Bautista is now becoming the new Rock in film - starring in so many duds that he's bound to make some great decisions (barring of course his stellar work in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films). Here he plays a detective who gets an Uber ride from mild-mannered Stu - played by Kumail Nanjiani - and enlists his help to track down some dastardy no-gooders. Of course this is your traditional mismatched buddy cop comedy, and of course it'll provide the traditional jokes and one-liners you expect, and much like the first three letters of the film's title, this will end up being STUpid.
The Lion King
July 19
Along
with "Aladdin," Disney is bringing their animated classic "The Lion
King" to the big screen in a (somewhat) live-action adaptation. The CGI
used looks absolutely stunning and the young Simba looks adorable, and
as everyone already knows the story, there's not much to tell. The film
features a strong cast including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel
Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, Beyonce, and James Earl Jones who
returns to reprise his iconic voice as Mufasa. I don't doubt it will
re-capture the magic the original had, something a new generation can
truly appreciate and love.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
July 26
Quentin
Tarantino returns with another of his offbeat dark humorous films, and
tells the stories of an actor and his stunt double as they attempt to
make a name for themselves in 1969 Hollywood. The film features Brad
Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio (surprisingly in their first film together),
along with Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, Damian
Lewis, Emile Hirsch, Scoot McNairy, Luke Perry (in his final
performance), Austin Butler, Lena Dunham and Timothy Olyphant, and looks
to be another knockout for the acclaimed director.
There are the major films being released in July 2019.
Here's the order in which I'm excited to see them:
#6 - Stuber
#5 - Crawl
#4 - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
#3 - The Lion King
#2 - Midsommar
#1 - Spider-Man: Far From Home
