The Girl in the Spider's Web
November 9
Now here's the story behind this: The character of Lisbeth Salander was created by Swedish author Steig Larsson, who wrote three books known as the Millennium collection before his death in 2004. Author David Lagercrantz picked up his work and wrote two more books with Salander as the main character. There was a trilogy of films from Sweden called "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played With Fire," and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest" featuring Noomi Rapace, and there was an American version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" directed by David Fincher and starring Rooney Mara, who received an Academy Award nomination for her performance. Now there's a soft reboot featuring "The Crown" star Claire Foy as Salander, and now she's out for revenge for women who have been abused, but there seems to be one of her past mistakes that's haunting her. Foy looks right for the part, and should prove to be an exciting chapter in the franchise.
September 14
"The Predator" series has had a roller coaster of popularity, from the amazing first two films to their more lackluster "Alien vs. Predator" mashups, to the underrated Robert Rodriguez-produced film "Predators." This time, Shane Black (known for directing "Iron Man 3," "The Nice Guys," and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") sits in the director's chair, and the trailer makes it look to be an exciting, bloody thrill ride. When a young boy accidentally alerts the Predators to return to Earth, humanity finds that they've upgraded in a huge way, and it's up to a crew of soldiers to stop them before they wipe out humanity. Featuring a stellar cast including Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, and Thomas Jane, "The Predator" looks to shine as bright as the originals, with loads of bloody violence.

Widows
November 16
From
the acclaimed director of "12 Years a Slave" comes this thrilling tale
of revenge and completion. When their husbands are killed in a failed
heist attempt, their widows pick up the mantle to complete the job, and
prove that women are just a capable as men. With a stellar cast
including Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Colin Farrell, Daniel
Kaluuya, Jacki Weaver, Jon Bernthal, Robert Duvall, Liam Neeson, and the
illustrious Viola Davis at the helm, look for some strong performances,
exciting action, and a daring storyline.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck it Ralph 2
November 21
John
C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman return in "Ralph Breaks the Internet,"
the followup to the wildly successful "Wreck it Ralph." This time
around, Ralph and Vanellope enter the World Wide Web, where they find a
whole new cast of characters (and every Disney princess ever) in their
search of a new steering wheel. Looks to be another standout hit for
Disney, a laugh-out-loud comedy for the whole family to enjoy.
#6
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
November 16
Much like its predecessor, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," "The Crimes of Grindelwald" looks to be a welcome addition to the Wizarding World franchise, the prequels to the "Harry Potter" saga. Eddie Redmayne returns as Newt Scamander as he takes on the dark wizard Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, with the aid of Albus Dumbledore, played by Jude Law. Look for exciting wizarding duels, fantastic performances, and top-notch effects.
#5
Creed II
November 21
After the huge success of the "Rocky" spinoff "Creed," it was only a matter of time before a sequel was greenlit. The result is "Creed II," which reunites Michael B. Jordan with Sylvester Stallone, and this time around Jordan's Adonis Creed decides to take on the son of Ivan Drago - the man who killed his father in the ring - in his own fight. Michael B. Jordan has proven he has the acting chops to pull off a heavily dramatic film, and this looks to be another exciting addition to the growing "Creed" franchise.

The Nun
September 7
Ever since she arrived as a menacing presence in the hit paranormal horror film "The Conjuring 2," fans have been clamoring for an origin story of the demented nun that plagued Lorraine Warren, and the result is "The Nun." Set in 1952, the film will focus on a young nun's search for answers after a mysterious suicidal death of a nun at a moastery in Romania. Taissa Farmiga (sister of "The Conjuring" star Vera) takes the lead here, and the film looks to be as unnerving and frightening as the last successful installment of "The Conjuring" universe, "Annabelle: Creation."
At first, I was wary of an American remake of the classic Dario Argento thriller, but after seeing the trailer, I'm more cautiously optimistic. The original "Suspiria" was the beginning of Argento's "Three Mothers" trilogy, and is also his most well-known film, and was filled with deep horror and awe-inspiring visuals. This remake features a strong cast including Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Chloe Grace-Moretz, and is delivered by director Luca Guadagnino, who directed last year's beautiful "Call Me By Your Name." With such a high pedigree both in front and behind the camera, I have no doubt they'll do Argento and his original creation justice, and I simply can't wait to see how it'll all turn out.
Venom
October 5
Venom has been one of Marvel Comics' most prolific villains/anti-heroes/whatever you want to call him for decades. A frequent enemy (and sometimes ally) of Spider-Man, Venom has achieved cult status and a crowd favorite. The character was horribly used in the abysmal "Spider-Man 3," but now he's getting his own film, a new actor, and it's his time to shine. Tom Hardy plays Eddie Brock, a reporter who uncovers a shady deal involving an alien symbiote that inhabits his body. Featuring a stellar cast and great effects, this looks to be the Venom movie we've all longed for.

Halloween
October 19
Very few film franchises have gone through as many retcons as "Halloween," a series that was never intended to be. Director John Carpenter only planned on one film, but as Hollywood goes, they have to follow the money. The result is a Michael Myers who becomes Laurie's brother, hell bent on ending his bloodline due to a Druid cult curse or something like that. Throwing all that away yet again, "Halloween" is a direct sequel to the 1978 classic, where Michael is just an insane man bent on killing a girl just because. Jamie Lee Curtis returns and is no longer a Scream Queen...but a Scream Goddess...as she prepares for Michael's (played by Nick Castle, who played Michael in the original as well) eventual arrival. It looks like the film will focus on her granddaughter, while Curtis' Laurie takes on a more Dr. Loomis role, but in any event I cannot wait to see these two titans clash once again!
