Worst2First: My Most Anticipated Films of Spring 2017

Worst2First:
My Most Anticipated Films of Spring 2017
Generally the spring brings about the end of the prestige films and maybe a few nuggets of decent films to keep you eagerly awaiting the huge summer season, but this year there's a lot of very exciting movies coming out in the spring months, and here are my ten most anticipated.  For me, the Spring constitutes the months of March and April.

**There will be no spoilers since the films
aren't actually released yet.

Also, the release dates are subject to change.**

#10
The Belko Experiment
March 17
The film has an interesting premise that threatens to stretch the societal norms to their limits: a group of co-workers must kill one another, or they'll die themselves.  It's an intriguing premise, but not outside the realm of possibility, as other such experiments (The Stanford Experiment and The Milgram Experiment come to mind) - albeit without the death - eventually show how we really are on the inside.  Do we stand together for the common good, or do we look our for our own self-survival?  It'll be an interesting premise to this movie for sure.

#9
T2 Trainspotting
March 17
Lately there's been a slew of sequels that came very long after the original had any significance, and the results have been disastrous.  However, I have big hopes for Danny Boyle's return to the "Trainspotting" franchise twenty years later, mostly because he is an Oscar-award winning director and he was able to reunite the entire cast so many years later.  The first film was a revolutionary masterpiece about a group of tripped out friends, and it looks like the only thing that's changed is their ages.

#8
Life
March 24
I am a sucker for outer space movies, and despite the terrible "Passengers" I still have high hopes for this action-adventure set in space.  A team of scientists discover a life form on Mars, and learn that it's much more deadlier than they expected.  The film also boasts a tremendous cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson.

#7
The Circle
April 28
A young up-and-coming technology wiz takes a job at a prestigious Internet corporation and soon discovers she is battling an inward - and outward - battle pitting privacy against surveillance, which could have an impact on the world as we know it.  In today's age, this is a very timely movie featuring excellent actors Emma Watson, Tom Hanks, John Boyega and Karen Gillan.

#6
The Zookeeper's Wife
March 31
"The Zookeeper's Wife" is the true story of Warsaw Zoo keepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski, who, during World War II, saved countless human lives by hiding them in animal cages at their zoo.  The film looks like an incredible tear-jerker that shows the power of love and the strength of the human will to do what's right in a world gone wrong.  Plus the film features the always amazing - and often underappreciated - Jessica Chastain.

#5
Beauty and the Beast
March 17
Disney has been re-imagining their classic animated films into live action with some stellar results, and "Beauty and the Beast" - a tale as old as time - looks to be another big hit.  Emma Watson takes on the main role, and she looks absolutely beautiful - as does the entire project - and the whole story is intoxicating and  majestic, with soul-stirring songs.  Easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

#4
The Fate of the Furious
April 14
Whoever thought that, back in 2001, "The Fast and the Furious" franchise would be on its eighth installment sixteen years later, and that surprisingly they wouldn't lose their value.  In fact, this franchise is one of the few that has actually either gotten better or stayed on a high plane of excellence throughout, especially after the addition of Dwayne Johnson.  This film looks to be changing the script even more because it's the first film since Paul Walker's passing, and also script-wise it looks to be an interesting story.  Dom, played by Vin Diesel, has always advocated the importance of family, but it seems like now he's turning his back on everyone he's loved, and I'm dying to know why.  Plus Charlize Theron has been added to the cast, and she'll easily bring a new sense of excitement to the franchise.

#3
Ghost in the Shell
March 31
I don't really know anything about the Japanese manga the movie is based, but it looks like an absolutely thrilling adventure featuring Scarlett Johansson - one of today's biggest action heroines.  Here she plays The Major, who go after cyber criminals and hackers, but it looks like there's more to her story than she's been told.  The effects look incredible and the story looks exciting, and anything with Scalett in it will easily be action-packed and enthralling.

#2
Kong: Skull Island
March 10
Peter Jackson brought the story of King Kong to life, but it was overly long and overly boring.  However, "Kong: Skull Island" looks to be a truly thrilling adventure featuring a super huge Kong and frightening critters known as Skullcrawlers who threaten Kong's - and the research scientists sent to investigate the island - lives.  Featuring a knockout cast including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly and Corey Hawkins, "Skull Island" looks like it'll be a very welcoming addition to the Kong franchise - as well as set up a reported pairing of King Kong and Godzilla in a future movie.

#1
Logan
March 3
There is so many positive things I can say about "Logan," and it hasn't even been released yet.  First of all, it's Hugh Jackman's final run as the X-Man Wolverine, a role he began way back in 2000.  Reports on set had him as being a very hard person to work with, but he said it's because he wanted everything to be perfect for his swan song, which is totally understandable.  Second, the film earned Wolverine his first R-rated film ever, giving him full permission to really let loose and let Logan be Logan.  Finally, the film loosely follows the Old Man Logan comic book story (loosely because there's no Red Skull, Hulk, or other Marvel characters available), which is a deeply profound, explicit tale that goes beyond the typical superhero tropes and really delivers a powerful punch.  Plus critics are already hailing it as a cinematic marvel, and something more than just a regular superhero movie.  Can't wait!
