Worst2First:
My Top Ten Actors Who Never Did Sequels

In a time where sequels are all the rage, many actors will metaphorically sell their souls to star in them, because more often than not they're easy cash grabs. Who doesn't want to see Robert Downey Jr. in another "Iron Man" movie? How many times can we enjoy Gal Gadot as "Wonder Woman?" Yet while it seems Hollywood is churning out sequel and sequel, there's some actors who have resisted the urge to appear in them, and here are my top ten favorite actors who've never appeared in sequels.

#10
Jake Gyllenhaal
Oscar-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal has had a slew of hits under his belt, including "Donnie Darko," "Nightcrawler," "Prisoners," "Brokeback Mountain," and "Rendition," but for his decades of work he's never appeared in a sequel to his films, even though "Donnie Darko" got the direct-to-DVD sequel treatment with "S. Darko." Maybe this will change since his appearance as Mysterio in "Spider-Man: Far From Home," because everyone knows no one does a one-and-done Marvel film.

#9
Jessica Chastain
Jessica Chastain has been nominated for two Academy Awards and has starred in critically acclaimed films like "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Help," "Miss Sloane," and "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," but she has yet to appear in a sequel, despite starring in film sequels "It: Chapter Two" and "X-Men: Dark Phoenix."

#8
Ryan Gosling
Another two-time Oscar nominee, Ryan Gosling has devoted his career to more artistic endeavors such as "Drive," "La La Land," "Lars and the Real Girl," and "Only God Forgives" and hasn't really had any desire to reprise any of his roles, even though he starred in the sequel to "Blade Runner" alongside Harrison Ford.

#7
Kathy Bates
Oscar winner Kathy Bates has had decades of movies under her belt, yet she's decided to not do a sequel to any of her iconic performances, save for her roles in the television anthology series "American Horror Story," but since this is a movie blog I'm not including multiple television performances.

#6
Joaquin Phoenix
Ever since making a big splash in cinema with his performances in films like "Gladiator," Joaquin Phoenix is one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors, despite his eccentric personality. The four-time Oscar nominee has chosen more off-the-wall roles for his stellar career, but if the rumors are true his name will soon be taken off this list if he appears in his Oscar-winning role of Arthur Fleck in the next "Joker" movie.

#5
Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster earned an Academy Award for her performance as Clarice Starling in "The Silence of the Lambs," and although she was approached to star in the sequel "Hannibal," she turned it down due to her not liking the script and was replaced by Julianne Moore. Apart from her most notable performance, no other roles in Jodie Foster's stellar career has been seen in any sequels, and neither has the acclaimed actress.

#4
Saoirse Ronan
Labeled the "Meryl Streep for Today's Generation," Saoirse Ronan has already achieved more in her young career than most actresses twice her age. The four-time Oscar nominee has had some truly memorable roles, but none of her previous work has garnered any sequels, except for her action thriller "Hanna," which was made into a television series.

#3
Leonardo DiCaprio
Even though he got his start in a sequel (the forgettable horror film "Critters 3"), Leonardo DiCaprio has never appeared in a sequel despite an encyclopedia-filled resume, and probably due to some of the directors he's worked with who despise sequels themselves. Still, it'd be interesting to see him reprise some of his more famous roles one last time, if not just for a pipe dream.

#2
Nicole Kidman
This Oscar-winning actress has been on the big screen since 1983's Australian film "Bush Christmas," but Nicole Kidman has yet to appear in a sequel. Throughout her career she's spanned the gambit of genres and has showcased exemplary skill, but no matter how much I hope for it, we'll never see a "Moulin Rouge 2."

#1
Daniel Day-Lewis
Unquestionably the greatest thespian of our time, Daniel Day-Lewis always chose his roles with meticulous purpose and precision, like the most professional doctor making the most intricate of incisions. This is why he would never appear in a sequel, due to his love for the craft and how involved he got into creating the characters for his roles (for his Academy Award-winning role in "My Left Foot," he actually broke two of his ribs to get a better feel for the character). He announced his retirement from acting after 2017's "Phantom Thread," and this three-time Academy Award winning actor will ride off into the sunset not having ever done a sequel to any of his works.
