The Friday Five: Tessa Thompson

The Friday Five:
Tessa Thompson
Tessa Thompson has appeared in a slew of critically acclaimed and financially successful films over her short career thus far, proving that this woman is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.  As she tackles the long-running "Men in Black" franchise with "Men in Black: International," I took a look at my five personal favorite Tessa Thompson films.

**THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS**

#5
 Annihilation

In this mind-bending horror/action/drama, Tessa Thompson plays physicist Josie Radek, one of five women who enter a mysterious Shimmer that's appeared on Earth in hopes of understanding what lies inside.  Josie is different than Tessa Thompsons' other characters in that she's more quiet and subdued, a woman who's been through several mental issues and therefore gives a more nuanced, passionate performance than her other roles as more tough women.

#4
 Creed II

Tessa Thompson once again returns to the "Creed" franchise as Adonis Creed's girlfriend Bianca, but this time she's pregnant and experiencing a world where Creed's life is threatened by an old nemesis.  Once again, Thompson manages to blend sincere worry with a no-holds-barred attitude she's best known for, and gives a terrific performance.

#3
 Sorry to Bother You
In this wildly unique and vividly individual film, Tessa Thompson plays Detroit, the girlfriend of Lakeith Stanfield's Cassius Green, an urban man trying to find a way to make a living.  Thompson plays Detroit as a strong, independent, fight-the-power woman, and manages to steal the show in a film that's way more than what you'd expect, and one you truly need to see to believe.

#2
 Creed
The "Rocky" franchise has existed since the 1970s, but now it's time for another to shine.  Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Creed, the son of the late Apollo Creed who was good friends with Rocky Balboa.  As Adonis attempts to create his own legacy in the boxing ring, he meets Tessa Thompson's Bianca, a hearing impaired woman who wants to be a singer and songwriter.  Thompson gives Bianca a strong edge but also an emotional center that helps keep Creed in line, as well as forging her own path in a world that seemed out of reach for a woman with her handicap, proving that you can truly achieve anything you set your mind to.

#1
 Thor: Ragnarok
Showcasing her action prowess, comedic timing, and just an overall total BA, Tessa Thompson stars in "Thor: Ragnarok" as Valkyrie, the last of a legendary all-female warrior clan on Asgard.  She joins Thor, Hulk, and Loki in taking down Hela and absolutely steals the show, proving herself as a more-than-capable actress with a bright future ahead of her.
