Films to See Before Captain America: Civil War

Films to See Before
Captain America: Civil War

One of the most anticipated films of the year is Captain America: Civil War.

It's a mini-Avengers movie where Captain America and Iron Man come to blows, and other superheroes choose sides.  It's due to be released May 6th, and to get the full appreciation for the film, there's ten movies you should see before Civil War.

Here are the ten films you should see, in order.

First:
The Amazing Spider-Man

Even though Spider-Man has been owned by Fox, they made a deal with Disney/Marvel to bring him to the Civil War story.  Since it's a different company, there's no previous ties between the web-slinger and Avengers, so there's no correlating tales here, no special appearances, nothing but the newest origin story of Spider-Man.

Second:
The Incredible Hulk

Hulk isn't going to be in Civil War, but General Thunderbolt Ross will be, and it looks like he's the one who instigates the rivalry between Cap and Iron Man, and in this movie he shows his distaste for the Hulk and pretty much anything super.

Third:
Captain America: The First Avenger

This is Captain America's origin story, and shows his early bond with Bucky, who later becomes the Winter Soldier.

Fourth:
Iron Man

This is Iron Man's origin story, and also one of the better superhero movies out there.  It chronicles the billionaire playboy philanthropist's rise to fame, and how he became a hero.

Fifth:
Iron Man 2

Not the best superhero movie out there, but what this film does do is introduce us to the Black Widow and War Machine.

Sixth:
The Avengers

The film that seemed impossible, "The Avengers" was a huge blockbuster that united Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Thor and Hulk and also showed some cracks in their friendship.

Seventh:
Iron Man 3

The story of Tony's fear of mortality is strong here, even if the story is a little haphazard.  Plus it takes place after the attack on New York, which Thunderbolt mentions in "Civil War."

Eighth:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Here we find Captain America in the present, working with Black Widow to infiltrate Hydra while battling the Winter Soldier, who was Captain's best friend Bucky.  This film also introduces us to Falcon, Crossbones and Agent 13.

Ninth:
The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Avengers team up again, but this time the cracks become deeper and we see the starts of a Civil War, due mostly to Tony Stark's arrogance.  We're also introduced to Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and the Vision, and there's a mention of Wakanda, home of the Black Panther.

Tenth:
Ant-Man

At the end of the marathon is the smallest superhero.  "Ant-Man" is the origin story of Scott, who gains a suit that shrinks him to the size of an ant with the ability to control them as well as having super strength.  There's also a scene here where he infiltrates Avengers headquarters and runs into Falcon.

Happy viewing!
