The Mirror

The Mirror
Starring Jemma Dallender, Joshua Dickinson, Nate Fallows
Directed by Ed Boase

Synopsis:
Roommates Jemma (Jemma Dallender), Matt (Joshua Dickinson) and Steve (Nate Fallows) decide to purchase a supposedly haunted mirror off eBay and film it to submit it to the James Randi Educational Foundation One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge.  As they film, Matt begins to exhibit strange behaviors, which culminates to deadly consequences for all three roommates.

Review:
Horror movies are the only genre of film where you can really produce a film with a little budget and have it be somewhat decent.  Unfortunately, "The Mirror" isn't one of them.

The premise is interesting - albeit almost a total ripoff of the much more superior "Oculus" - with a supposedly cursed mirror, but even the mirror itself looks like something you'd pick up at your nearest Target.  It's not old or ancient, but rather really modern and, well, a mirror.

As one of the cameras remains static on the mirror, the other cameras are used by the three roommates, plus a special GoPro camera attached to Matt.  They document everything - or, should I say, every BORING thing - they go through.  Because they don't go through a lot.  Matt begins sleepwalking and behaving erratically, and instead of, say, running away from the guy, the other two remain with him through it all.  As far as characterization goes, it's non-existent.  Their dialogue seems very unscripted, and if it actually was scripted, it'd be one of the worst scripts in history.

Like the "Paranormal Activity" films, expect nothing to happen until the last half hour.  With "The Mirror," even that is a total letdown, makes no sense, and is laughable at its head.  I just saw this an hour ago and can't remember most of it.

Summary:
Forgettable, dull, lifeless, and lacking any sort of story or cohesive ending.

My Rating: D+
