After spending a life in service in the military and police, Cole Reed (Jason Statham) works as a private security guard for the wealthy shipping magnate Tibu (Ramon Tikaram). The two have a great relationship, as Cole considers him a father figure after his own father's death, and one night they're ambushed in Bangkok and Tibu is killed, with Cole being framed for the murder. He discovers the assassins would be boarding the Artemis, a freighter ship once owned by Tibu, and he stows away. On the ship he finds a container holding numerous people, and learns that the villains are involved in human trafficking. As he sets out to get his revenge and save the people, he's aided by Angie Ellis (Annabelle Wallis), the ship's third mate who didn't know what was happening and wants to get home to her daughter.
Jason Statham movies are in a lane all their own, practically immune to real reviews because there's nothing really there to review. Statham punches, shoots, and uses all kinds of objects to dismember and murder the enemies, and you don't really need to know their names or why they're the bad guys - they just are. Each movie, to their credit, are well done and filmed, so it's not a chore to sit through, just mindless action. The choreography is tightly shot and exciting, the violence is explosive, and it's a story we've all seen before, so we don't have to really delve too deeply into anything concerning this movie. Action, excitement, violence, Statham. The end.
