Wolf Man

Image
Wolf Man Starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, Sam Jaeger Directed by Leigh Whannell Back in 2017, Universal had an idea to re-introduce their iconic horror movie monsters into a Dark Cinematic Universe, starting with the Tom Cruise-led "The Mummy" reboot, followed by the likes of Van Helsing (starring Channing Tatum), The Invisible Man (starring Johnny Depp), Frankenstein (starring Javier Bardem), and so on. But, as we all know, the total failure of "The Mummy" killed that universe before it really began, like a reverse Big Bang. Now Universal is doing something different - and better - by bringing back these monsters but not in a shared universe, but rather making them more applicable to today's society. 2020's "The Invisible Man" was a dark portrayal of gaslighting and spousal abuse, and now 2025's "Wolf Man" is a look at a dysfunctional family facing an unspeakable terror. Both were directed by Leigh Whannell, ...

Flight Risk

Image
Flight Risk Starring Michelle Dockery, Mark Wahlberg, Topher Grace, Leah Remini Directed by Mel Gibson Mel Gibson used to be a man respected in Hollywood, but lately his reputation has taken a few hits, and not in a good way. He directed some amazing work including the Oscar-winning "Braveheart," "Apocalypto," "Hacksaw Ridge" and "The Passion of the Christ," so his return to the director's chair was seen as a possible silver lining for the newly appointed ambassador to Hollywood, but sadly the result is a movie that never takes off, prattles on with repetitive dialogue and nonsensical decisions, and tries to throw in some twists that don't land, leaving for a conclusion that was equal parts groan-inducing and gut-busting humorous in all the wrong ways. Madolyn Harris (Michelle Dockery) is a disgraced Deputy U.S. Marshal who's last assignment ended in tragedy, but she's been given a second chance by her superior officer Caroline Va...

2024 was a great year for movies, and had a slew of instant classics that'll be talked about in the decades to come - and of course there's also a lot of stinkers that were so bad they were almost unwatchable - and everything in between. I saw 155 movies that were released in 2024 (I consider wide release as 2024, so some films were released in limited release in 2023 but I could them for 2024), and I ranked them all from worst to first.  You can listen to my ten best and worst films on my podcast, Poppin' Cinema with JoeMama and Friends, with my friends Kasey and Jack, but here is the entire list, from worst to first. Each image is color coded for how I graded them, and most of my reviews are in full here that you can find on my Archives page. Red = movies I rated D+ to D- Yellow = movies I rated C+ to C- Blue = movies I rated B+ to B- Green = movies I rated A and A- Purple = movies I rated A+ The worst film of 2024, this is what's wrong with cinema - throwing...
